Seven principles for eradicating selfish ambition in the fellowship: 7. the ministry of authority. Jesus made authority in the fellowship dependent upon brotherly service (Mark 10:43). Genuine spiritual authority is to be found only where the ministry of hearing, helping, bearing, and proclaiming is carried out. Every cult of personality that emphasizes the distinguished qualities, virtues, and talents of another person, even though these be of an altogether spiritual nature, is worldly and has no place in the Christian community; indeed, it poisons the Christian community. The desire we so often hear expressed today for "episcopal figures," "priestly men,""authoritative personalities" springs frequently enough from a spiritually sick need for the admiration of men, for the establishment of visible human authority, because the genuine authority of service appears to be so unimpressive... Genuine authority realizes that it can exist only in the service of Him who alone has authority... The Church does not need brilliant personalities but faithful servants of Jesus and the brethren... Pastoral authority can be attained only by the servant of Jesus who seeks no power of his own, who himself is a brother among brothers to the authority of the Word.

"... a result of the Fall and of sin. Man is first of all separated from God, then from himself, and finally from his fellow men and from nature. The blood of the Lord Jesus Christ will give an absolute and perfect restoration of all these things when Jesus comes. But in the present life there is to be a substantial healing, including the results of the separation between a man and himself. This is the first step toward freedom in the present life from the results of the bonds of sin."

"God's Word will never pass away, but looking back to the Old Testament and since the time of Christ, with tears we must say that because of lack of fortitude and faithfulness on the part of God's people, God's Word has many times been allowed to be bent, to conform to the surrounding, passing, changing culture of that moment rather than to stand as the inerrant Word of God judging the form of the world spirit and the surrounding culture of that moment. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, may our children and grandchildren not say that such can be said of us."

"Worship is not going to some ecclesiastical building week by week, perhaps once or twice, to attend what is called Divine worship. That is not worship.... Worship is this, that life is for the Lord. Every moment, every hour, every day, every week and every year-it is all for the Lord. That is worship.
The lives of such are the prayer of worship. They are not always putting it into language and phrases, and they are not always on their knees, and they are not always in meetings; but from behind them, so to speak, there is that which is reaching out to the Lord-they long for the Lord...."

"Christians who have arrived at the stage of knowledge of the cross where they ceased to walk 'after the flesh' think that they are now 'spiritual' believers, entirely renewed and led by the Spirit of God. But then comes the most important lesson, says Dr. Andrew Murray-the lesson concerning the danger of the 'inordinate activity of the soul, with its power of mind and will'-the 'greatest danger' which 'the Church, or individual, has to dread.'"
--Jessie Penn-Lewis
"To know 'what the Spirit saith', to know life in the Spirit, to be guided by the Spirit, to be checked up by the Spirit, for the Spirit within them to say 'No' or 'yes'-they know very little about it; very few know anything about that. They are either guided by tradition, how it has always been done; or they are guided by some set and fixed system of truth or doctrine, by what is 'the done thing'; or they are guided by the present crystallized, organized form of Christianity, which is so rigid and established that nothing else can be allowed to have any place"
--Austin-Sparks
"If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95% of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95% of what they did would stop and everybody would know the difference."

"These three, according to the present trends, are the essential elements of the church. Suppose here is a church today; (1) perhaps they have no pastor or clergy, (2) perhaps no Sunday service, (3) perhaps no meeting hall or cathedral or chapel; is this still a church? Let's say it does not have one of these three elements, it would not be deemed a proper church. So when somewhere a church is needed, the believers' first attention rest on these three elements; with these present, the church can be started, otherwise it would not be started. Nevertheless, is this biblical? Did the earliest Christians expect these three elements when starting a church? "
--Watchman Nee
"As a fresh start, the church should give away all her endowments to the poor and needy."

"They pride themselves on their biblical knowledge and excel in tracing the biblical allusions in crossword puzzle clues. Like Apollos they are 'mighty in the scriptures'. They have read it many times from cover to cover and committed large portions of it to memory. Fine! But an accumulation of Bible knowledge is one thing; a growing personal knowledge of Jesus Christ, whom to know is eternal life, is quite another."
--John R. W. Stott 思多
"Our greatest need today is an enlarged vision of Jesus Christ. We need to see Him as the One in whom alone the fullness of God dwells and in whom alone we can come to fullness of life."
--John R. W. Stott 思多
"..., for much Christian thinking today is still ignorant of its own infiltration by the present prevalent surrounding thought-forms."

"The central problem of our age is not liberalism or modernism, nor the old Roman Catholicism or the new Roman Catholicism, nor the threat of communism, nor even the threat of rationalism and the monolithic consensus which surrounds us. All these are dangerous but not the primary threat. The real problem is this: the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, individually or corporately, tending to do the Lord's work in the power of the flesh rather than of the Spirit. The central problem is always in the midst of the people of God, not in the circumstances surrounding them."
